Lesley is a Marine Protected Areas Student Assistant for emLab’s Pristine Seas project. She collects ecological and economic data on dive tourism from online sources, such as the cost and revenue of scuba diving in different parts of the world. She also collects spatial data on key marine species that aid in coastal protection, such as which species attract more divers/tourists. The data collected will be published in a peer-reviewed journal that will be used globally through the collaboration with National Geographic’s Pristine Seas project to identify the most beneficial areas of the ocean to protect. Lesley is a third year UCSB undergraduate pursuing a Biological Science and Environmental Studies degree. During her free time, she enjoys gardening, baking, hiking, visiting botanical gardens and national parks, and participating in water activities.
