Flavio Malagutti

Bio

Flavio is a Postdoctoral Researcher working in the intersection of environmental, development, and behavioral economics. His work explores how social dynamics and market incentives help low-income communities conserve common-pool resources and adopt clean energy. He also studies how cash transfers affect individual and household wellbeing. Flavio earned his Ph.D. in 2025 from the Bren School of Environmental Science, specializing in environmental and development economics. Before coming to UCSB, Flavio had worked in a wide range of research projects in developing countries, intersecting public policy, environmental sustainability, and economic development. In his free time, Flavio enjoys playing the guitar, researching music, planning wine-themed trips, and long-board surfing.
