Yifan (Flora) is a doctoral student at the Bren School, UCSB. She combines political science and land system science to study dynamics in rural land governance and its environmental and social outcomes. At emLab, she studies the impacts of collective land tenure systems in the Amazonian region. Previously, she worked as a social scientist at Conservation International, where she built global spatial databases to document the diversity and dynamics of area-based conservation governance systems. Flora holds a M.S. in conservation ecology and environmental informatics from the University of Michigan, and a B.S.S. from the University of Hong Kong. She spends most of her free time wandering in nature and capturing cherished encounters with wildlife.
